NBCUniversal’s Hispanic cable network mun2 announces it will premiere the second season of internationally acclaimed super series “El Señor de Los Cielos” on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 12 p.m ET/PT.  The first seven episodes of season two will premiere as a marathon on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 12 p.m ET/PT, and will subsequently air Mondays through Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT beginning on Dec. 22.

Originally airing on Telemundo and inspired by true events, “El Señor de los Cielos” stars Rafael Amaya as legendary 90s Mexican drug lord Aurelio Casillas, whose ambition was to become one of the richest and most powerful men in Mexico. The Emmy® Award-winning series has been a major success for Telemundo, with seasons one and two ranking as the network’s #2 and #3 highest-rated novela runs, respectively.

In the week leading up to the premiere, mun2 will air three “El Señor de los Cielos” specials:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 9 p.m ET/PT: “mun2 Presents: Los Secretos de El Señor de los Cielos” will offer an all-access look in to season one of the super series, with in-depth interviews with the cast and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 9 p.m ET/PT: “El Capítulo Secreto de El Señor de los Cielos” is a full-length episode created from seven chapters that originally appeared on Telemundo digital platforms in April 2014.  This episode picks up from the season one cliffhanger and serves as a mid-season bridge between seasons one and two.
  • Thursday, Dec. 18 at 9 p.m ET/PT:  “mun2 Presents: El Señor de los Cielos Season 2” takes viewers into the making of season two of the series, including exclusive interviews with stars Rafael Amaya and Carmen Villalobos on set in Mexico City.

Season two offers a shocking new development: just when everyone thought that Casillas has died during plastic surgery to change his appearance, we discover that the death was fake, part of Aurelio’s cold and calculating plan to wreak vengeance on those who betrayed him.

“El Señor de los Cielos” is produced by Telemundo Studios and filmed by Argos Television. Season one of the series aired on mun2 in early 2014.
